With-in These Walls
My creative thought process is one of personal vision. Whenever I am in the midst of a painting I have the goal of imbuing the piece with my sense of place and time. I want it to reflect the feelings associated with a particular place or a particular time that strikes a mood.
Watercolors help with that spontaneity by their very nature. They are immediate and for the most part, unlike oils, they can’t be re-worked or painted over. There is a permanence that says when you put this line here or that shadow there - your creative spirit wills it. You have to make immediate decisions regarding the outcome. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Also painting "plein aire" adds to that immediacy of the work. My art is Me. It is what I see, my thoughts and my emotions. When the piece is successfully completed the satisfaction of accomplishment is something more than myself.
